Fiona qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1985 and worked in the NHS for 13 years, specialising in working with adults and children with special needs. During this time, she also studied for and graduated with a BSc(Hons) in Health Studies. She left her NHS job to focus full-time on her practise as a CranioSacral Therapist. Since then, she has undergone a continuous programme of personal and professional development, mainly through the Upledger Institute, for whom she is a certified instructor in the UK. She also runs the Upledger Study Group for therapists in central and northern Scotland.

Fiona is passionate about treating the whole person and finding the origin of an issue in the body, rather than treating symptoms. She places great importance on listening to her patients, which is why she offers a free half hour consultation prior to treatment so that both parties can decide on the appropriateness of commencing treatment.

I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1982 and Registered Midwife in 1989. I have been employed within the NHS for most of my career and have worked as a Clinical Research Nurse for 26 years. I also have experience working with animals and was employed as a Veterinary Nurse in Edinburgh earlier in my career. Recently, I have left my research post to be a full-time Bodywork Therapist.

My passion for CranioSacral Therapy started in 2007, when my horse was chronically unwell. I became hooked after seeing an Equine Osteopath treat him with CranioSacral Therapy. I have studied with the Upledger Institute UK to Advanced level and am currently training in Equine and Small Animal CranioSacral Therapy with the Upledger Institute International.

I like to treat the whole person, and my area of interest is chronic pain and dysfunction linked to past emotional trauma. I treat people, horses and small animals and cover Central Scotland, Lothians, Fife and Perthshire. I offer home visits for people and animals.

I am originally a medical doctor with full registration in Germany and the UK. I very soon found it dissatisfying that common medicine mainly treats symptoms and conditions, without looking at the whole picture. I started to look at alternative ways – ways that takes the whole person in to account – body, sole and spirit.

I started out studying Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. Chinese Medicine has a completely different way of looking at the functions of the body, health and illness. This opened my eyes to a different way of healing. I heard about CranioSacral Therapy and I found it everything I was looking for – a way to treat people without manipulating and invading their bodies, without having to hand out pills with all their side-effects. A method to tap into our self-healing potentials and treat the whole person not just one part of it.

I started to train with the Upledger Institute and fell in love with this gentle but very powerful treatment method immediately. I have worked as a CranioSacral Therapist since 2002 and helped countless people from tiny babies to adults to overcome all kinds of physical and mental problems and to lead a more balanced and happy life. I still marvel at what a tremendous change CST can have on people’s life.

I am also trained as a Baby Massage instructor with the International Association of Infant massage and hold a diploma in Swedish Massage.

I have been treating people with CranioSacral Therapy and SomatoEmotional Release for over seventeen years and support this where indicated with Homeopathy and dietary or medical advice. I also work as an NHS General Practitioner.  As well as my clinical practice, I offer mentoring and support for health professionals both as one to one sessions, and in study groups for CranioSacral Therapists.  My particular expertise lies in helping people with complex medical problems who wish to balance orthodox treatment with a complementary approach. I have a special interest in working with anxiety and depression both in teenagers and adults, behavioural and sleep disturbance in children and with unsettled babies.

I graduated as a Chiropractor from the University of Glamorgan back in 2008. Following this, I returned to Scotland and have now established myself at Ayr Chiropractic and Complementary Health Centre in Ayrshire.

I first became aware of Upledger CranioSacral Therapy after seeing the amazing outcomes other CranioSacral Therapists  were experiencing with their patients. This prompted me to take my first CST1 class in 2011 and, since then, I have continued to explore the work of Dr Upledger and develop a CranioSacral Therapy practice myself.

I work with patients of all ages and backgrounds, including babies, children and adults, to help them develop, grow and live healthier lives. I integrate other therapies with this work when required, namely Visceral/Neural Manipulation, Applied Kinesiology, Lymphatic Drainage and Pilates rehabilitation programmes.

I am deeply passionate about this work, and am happy to discuss options with anyone looking to experience the world of CranioSacral Therapy for themselves.

I have been offering CranioSacral Therapy with SomatoEmotional Release for 9 years, as well as integrating them into my Counselling Practice. I am a member of the CSS (Cranio Sacral Society) and COSCA ( the professional body for counselling and psychotherapy in Scotland) and hold a degree in Psychology from Edinburgh University.  As well as my work with the Upledger Institute in the UK, I have also studied Healing From The Core in the USA to Presenter Level (Teaching Assistant).

The combination of all these modalities allows me to be an empathic Therapeutic Presence for clients, offering them a safe space to explore their process, a listening ear and a skilled pair of hands to release tension and blockages in the body. I believe in the power of integrating the mind, body and spirit to promote wellbeing.

Practice bias: CST-based, focusing on how life-shaping biographical, perinatal and transpersonal issues can express as persistent physiological and functional problems. Working with these issues through bodywork can be transformative. I also use cranial techniques within a whole-body framework at a purely physical level. With new clients, I prefer to start with a no-fee initial discussion before either party agrees to proceed with therapy.

Professional biography: qualified in osteopathy 1977, cranial osteopathy 1989, CST diplomate 1997; CST training chiefly in U.S.A., much with Dr John Upledger. Upledger Institute certified instructor and examiner. Started Upledger Institute UK in 1994; founding chairman of (UK) Cranio Sacral Society. I am not an osteopath.
